Madhya Pradesh News: Investigators probing the murders of four children have uncovered a disturbing pattern in the actions of the accused, Poonam. Police say she did not choose her victims impulsively. Instead, she identified each child nearly two days in advance and slowly built emotional closeness to gain complete trust.

According to officials, Poonam would begin by staying close to the child she intended to target. She would interact with them regularly, offering chocolates, sharing meals, playing games and engaging in conversations. Her behaviour was so natural and affectionate that parents never suspected anything unusual. Within hours, many children began seeing her as a friendly “sister” or “auntie,” often running to her with comfort and excitement.

Investigators describe the emotional connection she created as the most unsettling part of the case. Police say she used this familiarity only to isolate the children when the opportunity arose. Once trust was fully established, Poonam would lead the child to a place where water-filled containers such as drums or tubs were present.

There, she allegedly drowned the victims with no hesitation. Officers say the same pattern was evident in all four cases, those of Jiya, Vidhi, Ishika and even her own child. Each girl had been seen interacting warmly with Poonam shortly before the murders.

Details reveal that she frequently fed Jiya near her home, called Vidhi on the pretext of giving her sweets, and spent several days bonding with Ishika. Police say she behaved normally around the children for hours before taking them away and carrying out the killings in the same manner.

The investigation continues.
