Punjab Congress Crisis: Amid the ongoing conflict in Punjab Congress over demands of leadership change in the state, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, party state chief Amrinder Raja Warring, and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa met in Delhi. The meeting is largely seen as an effort from the high command to resolve the internal issues before the assembly election in 2027. As per the reports, more similar meetings are likely to be held between these leaders and the top brass in the coming weeks.
Meeting At Randhawa's Residence
As per the party sources, the meeting was held at Randhawa's residence in Delhi, and discussion was held on several issues, including the current state of the Punjab Congress leadership and organization. In the meeting, both Channi and Randhawa told Warring that a change in leadership ahead of the election could benefit the organization, reported Jagran, citing sources.
While the senior leaders could not reach any final conclusion, the meeting is being considered significant and a major step towards solving the internal rifts. As per the reports, the demand of leadership change was also raised last week in a meeting attended by party general secretary KC Venugopal. A series of meetings in the national capital indicate that the high command is working on a strategy to bring all the leaders on the same page.
Baghel Arrives In Chandigarh
Amid this major development, party state-in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday arrived in Chandigarh on a two-day visit. The reports suggest that Baghel will hold back-to-back meetings with senior state leaders and organization officials. Along with reviewing the current situation, the former Chhattisgarh chief minister will also attempt to reduce the ongoing differences within the Punjab Congress.
Earlier in the 2022 assembly election, Congress suffered a massive defeat against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reportedly due to the internal crisis. The grand old party is desperately trying to return to power in the northern state and is putting efforts into solving the internal crisis.
