The Punjab government is planning to introduce online appointments to patients in state-run government hospitals in major cities in Punjab. The Health Department of the state plans to provide this facility beginning from four to five major cities so that patients do not have to wait in long queues, waiting for their appointments.
The health department aims to provide the appointments through a website, which will help the patients to book their appointments with the doctor. After the initiative is started, the patient will be seen by the doctor at the scheduled time regardless of the number of patients who have obtained their slips manually at the hospital.
The online appointment system is expected to save patients' time, reduce overcrowding in hospitals and help doctors manage their workload. The Chief Minister will soon approve this scheme and implement it after a successful trial.
The initiative is one among a series of changes the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) introduced in the health sector, after opening 664 Aam Aadmi clinics across the state and announcing plans to open 100 more soon. The government clinics provide 84 types of medicines and 40 types of tests for free to patients with routine diseases.
