Indian Railways News: After increasing the price of train tickets, the Indian Railways has taken another decision impacting the pockets of passengers. In the latest update, the Railways has decided to charge Rs 10 per hour for sitting in the AC waiting rooms at the railway stations.

The new system is being brought in as the waiting rooms are being handed over to private entities for better care and maintenance. The system will come into effect from July 15. The system is already in place in the Howrah Railway Division, apart from Kolkata and Rampur Hat.

The Indian Railways will now introduce this system in Bhagalpur, Sultanganj, and Jamalpur of the Malda Railway Division. The railway has made necessary preparations in this regard.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Malda Railway Division, Anjan, said that passenger facilities have been increased at A-grade stations.

There will also be a small canteen in the waiting hall. The beautification work at all waiting halls has been done. This will not cause inconvenience to passengers while waiting for the train.

Train ticket prices hiked

This comes after Railway fares have been slightly hiked from July 1. Under the new fare policy, ticket prices have increased by 1 paisa per kilometre in non-AC coaches and 2 paisa per kilometre in AC coaches.

However, this policy will only be implemented for distances beyond 500 km. Fares for people travelling a distance less than 500 km will remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, several trains will remain cancelled in the Chakradhar Railways division between August 9 and 26 due to maintenance work. The officials informed that other trains will face route diversion and short-term termination during this period.
