Naidunia Representative, Raipur: The Raipur-Dhanbad Expressway, currently under construction between Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, is set to be a major game-changer for both states. Spanning approximately 707 kilometres, this vast road network is being rapidly constructed in phases to replace old, winding, and congested routes.

Once this modern, access-controlled corridor is operational, it will significantly strengthen Chhattisgarh's connectivity with neighbouring states like Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, resulting in major savings in time and fuel.

How Will It Benefit Commuters?

The Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor (EC-07) will significantly ease travel between the capitals of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Currently, the existing two-lane roadway takes 13 to 14 hours between the two cities. The new route will drastically slash travel times across the region:

• Raipur to Ranchi: The new access-controlled greenfield route will shorten the distance by approximately 30 kilometres, allowing the journey to be completed in just seven hours.
• Raipur to Dhanbad: Travel time will drop from 14 to 16 hours to 8 to 9 hours.
• Speed: Vehicles will travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

Construction Underway

Of the total 707-kilometre project, 384 kilometres fall within the state of Chhattisgarh. Construction work is moving rapidly across key segments:

• Pathalgaon-Kunkuri to Border: According to information released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun construction on NH-43 from Pathalgaon-Kunkuri to the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border.
• Raipur to Bilaspur: The old route between Raipur and Bilaspur is being upgraded to a six-lane road.
• Beyond Bilaspur: The stretch beyond Bilaspur is being developed as a completely new (greenfield) route.

Business And Interstate Trade Across 4 States

The expressway will directly connect major industrial cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, and Korba in Chhattisgarh to Dhanbad in Jharkhand, giving new impetus to regional trade.

• Neighbouring States: The road will also connect the borders of Odisha and West Bengal, expanding business contacts and trade across all four states.
