The Raj Bhavan recently said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially invited the Governor to attend the Vidhana Soudha event to felicitate RCB players. The statement contradicts the chief minister’s earlier claim that the state government did not organise the event. A stampede occurred near Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4, claiming 11 lives and injuring several others. The government has accused the opposition of using the tragedy for political benefit.
As per Raj Bhavan, the Governor had decided to host the RCB players at Raj Bhavan but when they contacted the Chief Secretary to coordinate the felicitation, they were informed that the Karnataka government would be holding an event at Vidhana Soudha instead.
“The Chief Minister officially invited the Governor to participate in the Vidhana Soudha event to felicitate RCB players," the statement from Raj Bhavan said, as per a News18 report.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday defended his presence at the Vidhana Soudha event. He said that he didn't organise the event and attended it because he was extended an invitation by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
While talking to the media, the Karnataka CM said, "The secretary and treasurer of KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) came and invited me to the event. We didn't organise the function, the KSCA did."
Furthermore, CM Siddaramaiah added, "They also informed me that the Governor is also coming, I only went there. I don't know anything apart from that I only went there after I was invited, they didn't invite me to the stadium."
