Parliament Winter Session 2023:  The Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die by the chairman on Thursday, a day earlier than the scheduled end of Parliament's Winter session. The Elder's House was indefinitely adjourned after the passing of three criminal law bills. The Bills seek to replace the colonial era criminal law acts - IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act - of the country with new and updated acts namely - Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Sanhita.

The Telecommunications Bill, 2023 was also passed by the House today ahead of its adjournment. The bill focuses on restructuring the nation's long-standing telecom law to enhance appeal to investors, ensure user protection, and grant 'extraordinary powers' to the government in case of public emergency.
