Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge got engaged in another war of words in the house proceedings on Friday over the no-confidence motion against the house chairman. The house was later adjourned for the day.

While speaking on the no-confidence motion, VP Dhankhar emphasised that he was not afraid of the opposition's move. He said that he is a son of a farmer and can deal with tough situations. He further stated that the opposition parties have insulted the constitution.

"I am a farmer's son, I will not show weakness. I will sacrifice my life for my country. You (opposition) have only one job 24 hours a day, why is a farmer's son sitting here? I have tolerated a lot... you have the right to bring a motion, but you are insulting the Constitution," Dhankhar said.

In a reply to Dhankhar, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that he was also a son of labourer and claimed that he has encountered tougher days in comparison to Dhankhar. He also accused Dhankhar of insulting Congress leaders. "You are encouraging the (BJP) members to speak against members of other parties... I am also a son of a labourer. I have faced more challenges than you... You are insulting our party leaders, you are insulting the Congress... We have not come here to listen to your praises, we have come here for discussion," Kharge said.

Earlier this week, Kharge accused Dhankhar of suppressing the voice of opposition in the upper house and termed him as the "biggest disruptor" of the house. He also accused Dhankhar of acting as a spokesperson for the government, allegedly for his "next promotion".

While Jagdeep Dhankhar was born in a farmer's family in 1951 in Kaithana village of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu, Kharge's father worked in a mill in Karnataka.
