Ahead of the start of the SIT investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, there is considerable stir in Ayodhya. According to Jagran sources, Champat Rai, general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, is reportedly unwell. He is reportedly suffering from a cold and high blood sugar.
Another trustee, Dr Anil Mishra, is also not in Ayodhya and is away for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the order for an SIT investigation without an FIR is also under question.
Dharmasena chief Santosh Dubey has made serious allegations against Champat Rai and Dr Anil Mishra. Many seers in Ayodhya believed that close associates of Rai were involved in the alleged embezzlement, and hence, he turned a blind eye to them.
The SIT investigation is anxiously awaited by people in Ayodhya, with people keeping close watch on the aspects of the investigation. However, for now, the fear of police raids and arrests has subsided among the alleged culprits.
Vinay Katiyar, who was associated with the Ram Mandir movement and remained a member of both the Houses of the Parliament, has warned that he will personally go to Ayodhya and drive away the thieves, or they will all face jail.
Following his threat, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad held a press conference and called for an investigation, but Katiyar remains adamant. Reports suggest that efforts are underway to persuade Katiyar.
The Uttar Pradesh government's SIT is expected to arrive in Ayodhya on Monday morning and begin the investigation. The SIT is expected to quiz senior members of the trust.
The alleged misappropriation of crores of rupees in donations, the recovery of donations, and the lack of an FIR so far have made the matter even more sensitive. Whether the SIT investigation will now be limited to employees or will it also question prominent figures within the trust is all the more important.
