After a meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Khestra Trust in Ayodhya over the alleged donation embezzlement at Ram Mandir, the trust provided an account of the donations and expenditures.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the temple trust said that the trust received Rs 3,264 crore from the Nidhi Samarpan Abhiyan and corpus donations.

Out of this amount, Rs 2,370 crore was utilised for construction and capital expenditure. Since the day the trust was formed to March 31, 2026, the temple received a donation of Rs 582 crore. Out of this, Rs 391 crore was spent on operating expenses. The trust said that the rest of the money was deposited in the bank.

The trust also revealed in its statement that all offerings other than money, including silver and golden ornaments and articles, were secure and accounted for. The trust maintains a date-wise register of each donation, annually verified by an independent CA.

The trust disclosed that a total of 2,936 physical gifts are registered in the temple. Moreover, the silver articles donated to the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple were melted into bars at the Government of India mint.

The trust elaborated that after learning about the alleged theft, the trust initially gathered information and then asked the UP government to investigate the matter.

Decisions in trust meeting

The trust added that after the SIT report, temple general secretary Champat Rai and trust member Anil Mishra tendered their resignation on moral grounds, which was accepted in the meeting on Monday.

The trust has also appointed member Krishna Mohan as an interim general secretary in place of Champat Rai as an additional charge until a full-time member is appointed. Notably, Krishna was the first to lodge the FIR into the alleged embezzlement on June 25.

The trust has also formed a three-member committee to interview candidates for the board of trustees for a complete overhaul.

The panel, including retired Justice Pradeep Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and Suresh Havare, who successfully managed the Shirdi institution for ten years, will submit the final list to the trust, based on which the new members will be selected.
