Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: Amid the massive uproar over YouTube Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia's derogatory remarks on Samay Raina's India Got Latent show, the Maharashtra cyber cell on Tuesday filed an FIR against the reality show. The cyber cell has sent a summons to over 30 people who have participated in India's Got Latent since its inception till now.
The cyber cell has lodged a suo moto (on its own) FIR after Ranveer Allahbadia's comments from the show went viral on the internet, triggering a massive controversy. According to cyber cell officials, as quoted by PTI, the case against India's Got Latent has been filed under relevant sections of the IT Act and sought the removal of all episodes -- total 18 -- of the comedy show.
During its probe, the Cyber Department found that participants and others associated with the show, including guests, were seen using "vulgar and obscene" language in the programme. It has shortlisted such people, including judges of the show and guests. This came after multiple complaints were filed in Mumbai seeking action against Ranveer Allahbadia and others associated with the show, including Apoorva Mukhija and comedian Samay Raina.
The row even reached the Parliament today with Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske seeking a law to regulate social media platforms where influencers are posting "all kinds of nonsense" in the name of freedom of speech. The MP from Maharashtra's Thane said the Ministry of Information Technology should take note of the language used by content creators on social media.
"There is a need to censor content on social media and OTT platforms," Mhaske said during the Zero Hour. He demanded that action be taken against Allahbadia and a stringent law enacted to regulate content on social media.
AICWA Calls For Ban On India's Got Latent:
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has strongly condemned YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's remarks and has demanded an "immediate ban" on the show along with legal action against those involved. AICWA stated that Allahbadia's comments were offensive and went against "societal and family values." AICWA also added a list of demands, which included a complete ban on 'India's Got Latent,' strict legal action against Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina, FIRs against all responsible individuals, and stronger regulations for digital content to prevent similar incidents, among others.
"The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) vehemently condemns the reprehensible and offensive remarks made on the YouTube show India's Got Latent, hosted by Samay Raina. In a recent episode, Ranveer Allahbadia, who participated in the show, unleashed abhorrent and vile statements that are deeply disrespectful to our societal and family values. Such disgraceful content is utterly unacceptable and poses a significant threat to the moral fabric of our society," AICWA wrote.
"Representing the entire Indian film industry, AICWA officially boycotts India's Got Latent. We call upon all actors, filmmakers, directors, and technicians to immediately cease any collaboration with individuals involved in this show, including host Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. Henceforth, these individuals will receive no support from the Indian film industry," the statement further read.
Ranveer Allahbadia Summoned By NCW:
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Ranveer Allahbadia and others for a hearing on February 17. Under the instructions of NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, the hearing has been scheduled to address the controversial remarks made by the content creators on the show.
"These comments, which have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect," the NCW said in a statement.
Earlier, the NCW wrote to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking regulatory measures to check obscene content available on various Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms and social media streaming sites. In her letter, the NCW Chairperson said obscene content can be easily accessed by people of all age groups which has increased the possibility of negative impact on society, particularly on women and children.
