Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that the state government is trying to ensure that public harmony is not compromised due to the activities of an organisation, hinting at restricting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in public spaces. Siddaramaiah has asked the state chief secretary to review the action taken by the Tamil Nadu government in this regard.

"No organisation should disturb people in public places. Action has been taken in Tamil Nadu. We will examine it and take further action," Siddaramaiah told the media, as per news agency ANI.

RSS is the parent body of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Founded in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was established as a volunteer-based organisation with the goal of fostering cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among citizens.

The move follows Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s appeal to CM Siddaramaiah to prohibit RSS activities in government-run schools, colleges, and state-owned temples.

"The RSS organisation is using government spaces for its activities. Minister Priyank Kharge has written a letter stating that since it (activities in government/public spaces) has been banned in Tamil Nadu, it should be banned here as well," Siddaramaiah said, as quoted by a Hindustan Times report.

Threat Calls To Priyank Kharge

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge claimed that he has been getting threat calls after his statement on RSS.

Priyank shared a video of an abusive call on X. The minister said his fight is not against individuals, but against “the toxic mentality spread by the RSS".

"For the past two days, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing. Calls filled with threats, intimidation and the filthiest abuse directed at me and my family, simply because I dared to question and restrain RSS activities in government schools, colleges and public institutions. But I’m neither shaken nor surprised. When the RSS didn’t spare Mahatma Gandhi or Babasaheb Ambedkar, why would they spare me?" he stated in a different post.
