To strengthen women and public safety, the Haryana Police has announced plans to create safety islands in major cities of the state, like Gurugram and Faridabad. The initiative will kick off in Gurugram, with plans to expand to Faridabad and other major cities across Haryana.

The first step towards the creation of these islands will include the installation of video-enabled emergency SOS points at 70 strategic locations in Gurugram, jagran.com reported. These points will allow users to make both video and voice calls for immediate assistance.

How Will These Points Function?

Users will have to come to these SOS booths and press the ‘SOS’ button, which will initiate a telephonic call. The calls made by the callers from these strategic points will be directed towards the designated police officer at the control room. Once a complaint is received, the nearest Police Control Room (PCR) unit will be dispatched to the location without delay.

Designed with a focus on women's safety, the SOS system aims not only to assist in catching offenders during incidents like altercations but also to serve as a tool for sharing vital public information. The police will have access to all recordings captured by these SOS cameras.

Information will also be provided in clear signals indicating where the SOS machines are located. Special booths will also be set up to guide people to these places where SOS machines are set up. Police officials have also said, “In addition to filing a complaint, any man or woman who needs immediate police information can also do so from these spots.”
