A scuffle broke out between pantry staff aboard the Vande Bharat Express at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on Thursday. A video of the incident went viral on social media the following day, drawing widespread attention and prompting official action.
What began as a verbal altercation between two groups of IRCTC pantry employees quickly escalated into a physical fight. Several uniformed staff members were seen attacking each other while shocked passengers looked on. Chaos ensued, with punches, slaps, and kicks exchanged in full public view. Following the video's circulation, Railway Police acted swiftly. A preliminary investigation led to a case being registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin Station under Section 194(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new Indian penal code.
The video shows one individual removing his belt and swinging it at a co-worker, while others retaliated with their bare hands, further intensifying the scuffle. Toward the end of the footage, one staff member is seen pushing a dustbin back into place on the platform. Meanwhile, passengers can be seen either recording the incident or watching in disbelief.
According to a report by Jagran.com, the Delhi–Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express was stationed at Platform No. 7 when the dispute occurred. The altercation reportedly started over the placement of a water container inside the train and soon turned violent.

IRCTC released a statement addressing the incident saying, "The matter has been viewed very seriously. Four staff members of the service provider have been detained by RPF authorities for further investigation. All four staff members’ ID cards have been deactivated and they have been derostered. A show-cause notice for termination of the contract has been issued to the service provider, and a hefty penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed."
The identity cards of all four vendors involved were also seized during their detention.
