Delhi Commission for Women, DCW's Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Monday strongly reacted to trollers who abused cricketer Shubman Gill's sister Shahneel Gill on social media after the batsman's brilliant ton helped Gujarat Titans win against Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday night.
Taking to Twitter, DCW Chairman shared screenshots of some of the Twitter users who allegedly trolled Shubhman's sister and said that strict action will be taken against all those who have abused her.
“This shall not be tolerated!” the DCW chief tweeted.
Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well. This… pic.twitter.com/eteGtGgPVm

“Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli daughter…” she added.
Earlier, on Sunday, in a high stake match, Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore. Soon after the match ended, trollers took to social media and started abusing the Gill siblings as Gujarat Titans landed the knockout punch to RCB in the final league stage game because of Shubman's scintillating knock of 104 not out.
The trolls targeted him and his sister, especially over her Instagram post after the match. Meanwhile, the siblings have not filed any official complaint yet neither they have issued any statement on the abuses.
Prior to this, DCW registered a case which involved similar actions against Virat Kohli's family. According to reports, an FIR against unidentified persons was registered for making lewd comments on social media about the daughters of Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, following a complaint by the DCW.
The FIR was registered at the Special Cell unit of the city police under the relevant section of the Information Technology Act, the police said, adding an investigation was on.
Then, the DCW chairperson said such comments were increasingly made for the wife and daughters of cricketers even threatening to rape them. The commission had taken suo motu cognizance of some social media posts targeting the daughters of the cricketers.
