SIR Draft Roll Released: The Election Commission on Tuesday evening released the integrated draft electoral roll, announcing the removal of 42 lakh voters in Madhya Pradesh and 27 lakh in Chhattisgarh after conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Apart from this, the poll body also informed that over 22 lakh voters were removed in Kerala after the door-to-door revision process. However, the removed voters will have the opportunity to challenge their omission during the "Claims and Objections" period. The poll body has advised the voters to verify their details carefully to ensure that no eligible voter is removed from the final list.
The Election Commission informed that the officials had collected EFs from around 5.31 crore electors in Madhya Pradesh. The poll body further stated that the final data of removed voters included 8.46 lakh deceased voters, over 31 lakh untraceable voters, and 2.77 lakh voters registered at multiple locations.
Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari claimed that the removed voters belonged to the BJP, adding that they helped the BJP to win the state assembly election. "ECI has found more than 42 lakh fake voters in Madhya Pradesh, while the Bharatiya Janata Party had secured 30 lakh votes more than Congress in 2023 Assembly elections. It means that these fake voters belonged to the BJP," Patwari told the reporters.
While providing details about Chhattisgarh, the poll body stated that over 6 lakh deceased voters were deleted from the list. Apart from this, the EC also removed over 19 lakh voters who shifted to some other places and 1 lakh 79 thousand electors were untraceable.
While the opposition parties have claimed that the SIR was being conducted to remove the voters of the marginalised communities, the poll body has asserted that the process will make the elections more transparent.
