YouTube Chief Neal Mohan on Thursday extended his congratulations to the team of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for achieving a streaming milestone with the launch of India’s lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3.
YouTube India took to X, formerly Twitter, and said that the live stream of Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing on the Moon, which took place on August 23, was watched by more than 80 lakh (over 8 million) users, making it the most-watched live stream worldwide.
While quote-tweeting YouTube India’s post, Mohan wrote, “This was so exciting to watch - congratulations to the whole team at @isro. 8M concurrent viewers is incredible!"

YouTube India shared a 16-second clip from the launch day, showing various moments from the ISRO control centre, capturing the entire journey from the start of the broadcast to Chandrayaan-3’s successful landing on the south pole of the moon. The video also showcased joyous celebrations among the ISRO officials.

Following its successful landing last month, the Chandrayaan-3 lander is currently near the Moon’s South Pole. The Vikram lander and Pragyan rover both performed various sets of duties on the lunar surface, including finding the presence of sulphur and other minor elements and listening to movements around it.

Chandrayaan-3, ISRO’s third lunar mission, landed successfully on the Moon’s south pole following a journey of 41 days. The mission paved the way for future interplanetary missions. After this historic landing, India became the first country to land on the lunar south pole and only the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to land on the moon.
