Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday clarified after a video of him allegedly abusing the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on camera went viral.
According to an India Today report, Yadav was asked a question on the CI’s remarks on the Ayodhya verdict. “When you bring the dead back to life, they turn into ghosts and haunt the public. Many people talk like this, should I take notice of them,” India Today quoted Yadav as saying while using a cuss word.
The Samajwadi Party leader later claimed that he was not asked a question on the CJI. “Nobody asked me anything about the CJI. The CJI is a very reputed person. I never made any comment (on him). I was asked about Bahraich (violence) and I responded to that,” the leader said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
What Did The CJI Say On Ayodhya Verdict?
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Sunday said that he prayed before God for a solution in the controversial Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute and claimed that God will always find a way if one has faith.
While addressing residents of his native Kanhersar village in Khed taluka, where he was felicitated, Chandrachud claimed that he urged the deity to find a solution in the case. "Very often we have cases (to adjudicate), but we don't arrive at a solution. Something similar happened during the Ayodhya (Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute), which was in front of me for three months. I sat before the deity and told him he needed to find a solution," he said. Further, he asserted that he believes in God and prays regularly. "Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way," he added.
On November 9, 2019, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi settled a fractious issue paving the way for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Meanwhile, 5 acres of land were provided for a mosque in the same district. DY Chandrachud was also part of the bench that unfolded the case. The CJI had visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in July this year and offered prayers.
The judgment was considered historic as a dispute of decades finally got settled as the court observed that there was a temple before the construction of the Babri masjid, as per the reports of the Archeological Survey of India. The court also criticised the demolition of the mosque, citing it as an unlawful activity, and held the administration responsible for it. The court asked the government to provide the land to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque. A Ram temple has been constructed in Ayodhya, and the idol of Lord Ram was consecrated on January 22, 2024.
