Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has hinted at a crackdown on illegal immigration, similar to the one in Assam. He promised strict border surveillance, rapid fencing along the Bangladesh border, and better coordination between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled eastern states under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Purvodaya campaign.
Suvendu Adhikari made these remarks on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his second term in Assam. CM Suvendu also cited Assam and Tripura as examples for Bengal's security and political strategy. He further said, "The BJP will now implement similar work in Bengal as has been done in Assam and Tripura for the benefit of the country."
Will Strengthen Border Security Like Assam: Suvendu
He thus linked Assam's border security strategy to the BJP's roadmap for Bengal. "Like in Assam, we will take all necessary steps to tackle illegal infiltration and strengthen security along the Bangladesh border," he said.
Targeting the previous TMC government, the official alleged that it weakened border security through appeasement politics and failed to hand over the required land to the BSF for fencing those parts of the Bangladesh border which have not been fenced yet.

BSF Will Get Land In 45 Days
Hours earlier, officials in Kolkata announced that their government had begun the process of transferring land for border fencing. After the first cabinet meeting on Monday, they said the land needed for the fencing would be handed over to the Union Home Ministry within 45 days.

In Guwahati, Adhikari also proposed a broad eastern alliance led by the BJP, based on economic development and security synergy. Adhikari specifically praised Sarma, calling him a grandfather, a guide, a troubleshooter, and a trusted political ally.
