Tamil Nadu Politics: Udhayanidhi Stalin, Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, was released by the state police after questioning over his alleged derogatory remarks against actress Trisha. DMK advocate and RS MP NR Elango alleged that Stalin was detained as an attempt to not make him participate in the first budget session of the TVK government. Earlier today, the Madras High Court had directed the state police to release Stalin after questioning. However, the court has also instructed Stalin to cooperate with the investigation whenever required.
Earlier today, the state police detained Stalin from his residence, leading to a massive controversy. The action was taken following an FIR against him over his alleged defamatory remarks against Chief Minister Vijay and the famous actress. Earlier while addressing a crowd over the Cauvery dispute, Stalin slammed CM Vijay for his alleged silence on the issue.

Allegations Against Junior Stalin
However, the controversy erupted after his supporters shouted Trisha's name to which Stalin allegedly responded with a double-meaning remark. The video got immediately viral across the social media platforms with netizens criticizing Stalin for his gesture. Stalin has been booked under sections 61, 79, 192, 196, 296(b), 351(2), 352 of BNS, Section 4 of TN Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 67 of IT Act.
The leader of opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly has been arrested by Thanjavur East Police and is being taken to Thanjavur. Earlier, the opposition leaders from BJP and TVK slammed the leader of opposition and demanded his detention.
"Truly, even a rogue or thief who has a mother, wife, daughter would not speak so vulgarly. No mother, wife, or daughter would forgive those who speak like that," Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Kanimozhi Reacts
While reacting to Stalin's detention, DMK senior leader Kanimozhi alleged that the state government wanted to take personal revenge against Stalin. "If the government wants to personally take revenge against LoP Udhayanidhi Stalin, let it file a case. Let the court deliver its verdict," the DMK MP said in her statement.

"But, lacking the courage to confront the DMK as an opposition party, for the government to resort to such oppressive tactics is against the law. Arresting the Leader of Opposition in this way, solely to prevent him from participating in the Assembly session starting tomorrow, is blatant cowardice," she added.
