Tamil Nadu School Holiday: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area currently situated over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining south Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen, intensifying into a depression by November 24 and developing into a cyclonic storm ‘Senyar’ in the Bay of Bengal around November 26.
The system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Tiruvarur districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Puducherry and Karaikal areas. As a precautionary measure, several districts have announced school holidays for Monday, November 24, 2025.
School Holiday In THESE Districts
According to a report by The Hindu, District Collector M S Prasanth declared holidays for schools in Kallakurichi, while Ramanathapuram District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon has announced a one-day school closure due to the heavy rain forecast.
In view of the heavy rain forecast, Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in both the Puducherry and Karaikal regions for Monday, November 24, the report added.
In neighbouring Tamil Nadu, schools in Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur and Karur will remain closed today due to rain.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu, including Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely to occur in Coimbatore, Kallakurichy, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thoothukkudi, Tiruchirapalli, Tiruppur, Viluppuram, and Virudhunagar districts of Tamil Nadu.
In view of the heavy rain forecast, the Tamil Nadu government has deputed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli and instructed collectors to take precationary measures.
