Tamil Nadu Weather: The northeast monsoon has intensified in Tamil Nadu, resulting in significant overnight rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall across various districts in Tamil Nadu for Thursday, along with warnings of thunderstorms affecting Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Tamil Nadu Schools Closed Update

On Wednesday, schools in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Tiruvarur districts were closed due to heavy rain, following a red alert issued by the IMD for several regions. At this time, there is no announcement regarding school closures in Chennai or other districts for November 21. Since there is no heavy rainfall alert for Chennai and surrounding areas, schools are expected to operate as usual today.

Chennai Weather Update

In Chennai, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicts a partially cloudy sky with pleasant weather and no rainfall is expected on Thursday. Mornings may be misty, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 25-26 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 31-32 degrees Celsius.

Earlier in the week, heavy rains led district collectors in Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi and Karaikal to declare school holidays on Tuesday, November 19. In Karaikal, colleges also closed, while only schools were affected in Thoothukudi.

Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast

The IMD has indicated that moderate rainfall is likely across Tamil Nadu over the next five days, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in several areas. Additionally, a weather bulletin warns of heavy rainfall in isolated locations, including Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram and Karaikal on November 25.

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, authorities in the Delta and southern districts remain vigilant. They are monitoring flood-prone areas and deploying relief teams. Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid waterlogged regions and stay updated on weather forecasts.
