Chennai Rain: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chennai and surrounding areas, including Kancheepuram and Chengalpet, in anticipation of heavy rainfall. The alert is in effect on Thursday and will extend to several other districts until November 12. Rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 cm within 24 hours are expected in some locations.

Meteorologists attribute the impending heavy rainfall to a cyclonic circulation over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal, which extends up to 3.1 km above sea level. The strengthening easterly winds are also contributing to the rainfall.

On Thursday, we anticipate moderate to heavy rainfall in certain areas of the city. Rain activity may continue for at least four days, though it may be lighter in intensity after Thursday. It is difficult to determine whether the rainfall will occur during the day or at night."
