Chennai Weather Update: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has warned of heavy rain in the city and nearby districts on Saturday, October 4. Officials said the weather system over the Bay of Bengal will bring widespread rainfall, while Chennai may experience moderate spells with thunderstorms on Friday.

Depression Over Bay Of Bengal

The RMC explained that a well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal developed into a depression on Wednesday. It later intensified into a deep depression and is positioned near West Bengal and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists said the system is moving north-northwestwards and is expected to cross the Odisha-Andhra coast between Gopalpur and Paradip on the night of October 2.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast

According to the forecast, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning may occur in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Friday. From Saturday, isolated heavy rain is likely in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Salem districts, as well as Puducherry. The department added that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning could continue at one or two places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till October 6.

Tamil Nadu Temperature

On Thursday, Madurai recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 39 degrees Celsius, while Karur Paramathi logged the lowest minimum in the plains at 22 degrees Celsius. The weather office noted that maximum temperatures may remain 2–3 degrees Celsius above normal in some pockets of Tamil Nadu until October 6.
