Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall till June 15. The weather department stated that the rainfall will reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing major relief from the scorching heat. It further stated that the coastal region of the state is expected to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds for the next few days. The IMD also advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

While providing details, the weather department stated that cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining regions will lead to rainfall in multiple eastern, western, and southern states.

It further stated that several districts, including Chennai, Ranipet, Villupuram, Tiruvallur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Theni, Thoothukudi, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Sivaganga, Chengalpattu, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, and Virudhunagar, are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.

The IMD stated that while the maximum temperature of Chennai is likely to be recorded at 33 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 28 degrees Celsius. It further stated that the humidity is likely to remain around 77 per cent for the next few days. The weather department further stated that while the rainfall will provide relief from the heat, it will also lead to several other issues, such as waterlogging and power outages.

It further advised the residents of the coastal regions to follow the guidelines and limit the financial activities to avoid inconveniences. The weather department also stated that apart from Tamil Nadu, other states, including West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, and Telangana, will also receive light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.
