A man hailing from Bihar's Bhagalpur was arrested for making a hoax call about the presence of a terrorist carrying a bomb inside the train to secure a seat.

The man, identified as Monu, has been living in Delhi for the past several years. He boarded the general coach of the Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Vikramshila Superfast Express while returning after Chhath Puja on Saturday.

When the train was near Etawah, he called the police and alerted them about a terrorist and a bomb on the train.

Accused led the train

In a bid to escape, Monu later deboarded. According to the information, he called the police on 112 and the railway on 139 from two different phones. The authorities swung into action and checked the train at Jaswant Nagar.

The train was stopped at Aligarh station for 32 minutes for further inspection. The detained searches revealed nothing, which prompted the police to identify the phone number from which the calls were made.

How did police arrest Monu?

However, the phone was switched off. GRP Inspector-in-Charge Sandeep Tomar said that as soon as the mobile phone was turned on, the location was traced, and he was arrested at the Bharthana Railway Station.

During the interrogation, he confessed to providing false information about terrorists and bombs to secure a train seat.

The police are investigating the whole incident. The police are also verifying Monu's address in Bhagalpur.

A similar incident was reported last month when two brothers, frustrated over the unavailability of a seat on the Delhi-bound Amrapali Express, made a false bomb threat call.

Speaking about the incident, SHO GRP Om Narayan Singh had said, "They said the train was full, and after an argument over seating, they made the false bomb call out of frustration".

On call, they had claimed that '12 men in black' had boarded the Amrapali Express and planted a bomb in the general compartment.
