Thiruvananthapuram Metro: The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have fast-tracked the detailed project report (DPR) for the Thiruvananthapuram metro. The officials stated that the final report is in its last stage and is likely to be submitted by the end of January or the first half of February. The KMRL is reportedly making changes to the DPR prepared by the DMRC and is soon likely to submit the final draft. Earlier last month, the metro officials stated that the operation of metro trains in Thiruvananthapuram will significantly boost the regional connectivity.
While providing details, the officials stated that the first phase of the project has been designed between Pappanamcode and Eenchakkal, reported The Hindu. The KMRL has introduced a new route through Technopark after receiving multiple demands from the stakeholders. The officials further stated that this will also adjust the Pattom-Ulloor stretch to pass through the Medical College instead of Kesavadasapuram. They further emphasised that the metro services will provide conveniences to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.

The officials also stated that technical feasibility and traffic projections for these proposed routes are being closely reviewed by the concerned authorities. The final report will be submitted to the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for final approval after receiving a green signal from the state government. However, the officials emphasised that the KMRL plans to begin the preliminary works while awaiting a clearance from centre.
The first phase has been strategically designed to connect prominent locations, including Technopark’s three phases, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and the Government Medical College, ensuring seamless mobility for daily commuters and visitors across the city.
