Indian Railways has announced a temporary suspension of its Passenger Reservation System (PRS) services on the intervening night of December 23–24, due to essential technical maintenance work.
Shutdown Timings
The shutdown will be effective from 11:45 pm to 4:15 am, rendering PRS services completely unavailable for approximately four and a half hours.
Affected Services: During this window, passengers will not be able to access several key facilities, including:
- Online ticket booking.
- Checking PNR status.
- Current reservation inquiries.
- Ticket cancellations.
- Bookings for trains departing from Delhi.
- Chart preparation and EDR services.
Additionally, the PRS report facility at railway ticket counters will also remain suspended, which may impact passengers attempting to conduct ticket-related transactions at stations during these hours.
Reason For Maintenance
According to railway officials, the temporary shutdown is required for PNR file compression. This technical process is aimed at optimising system performance, ensuring faster and more efficient reservation services for passengers in the future.
Advisory
The Railways has urged passengers to complete any urgent reservation-related tasks before the scheduled downtime to avoid inconvenience.
