Twisha Sharma Death: The suspicious death of 33-year-old model and actress Twisha Sharma triggered nationwide outrage as her family alleged that it was a dowry death. She was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12, just months after her December 2025 marriage to Samarth Singh, whom she met on a dating app in 2024. Twisha, a resident of Noida, shifted to Bhopal after the marriage. The mystery over her death continues as police, even after a week of the death, could not ascertain the actual reason for the death. The main accused, her husband, is still on the run. There are allegations and counter-allegations made by both sides of the family, which have made things more complicated.

Why Is The Case A High-Profile

The accused is a lawyer, and his mother, Giribala Singh, is a retired judge, whom the deceased's family has accused of murder and dowry harassment. An alleged involvement of a retired judge in the dowry case drew media attention. The victim was also highly educated and ambitious. She was a former Miss Pune and an MBA graduate from Noida. She had displayed her acting skills in a couple of movies. On Sunday, Twisha's family staged a major protest outside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's residence in Bhopal. Pointing out that Twisha's body has been kept in a Bhopal mortuary for five days, her father demanded that the compromised local probe be halted and a fresh, independent post-mortem be conducted at AIIMS Delhi.

What Twisha's Family Alleged Against Her In-Laws

Twisha's family alleged that the retired judge is using her influence to protect her family. They also questioned the anticipatory bail granted to Samarth's mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, who is also an accused in the case. Her family alleged that she was systematically tortured and murdered over dowry. Twhisha's grief-stricken father, Navnidhi Sharma, demanded the immediate arrest of both the husband and the retired judge. "Rejection of the anticipatory bail plea was not our victory. Our victory will be when both are punished," he said. He expressed deep fears that the influential family would use money and power to secure relief from the Madhya Pradesh High Court if they were not locked up immediately. Sharma said his son-in-law was a drug addict, and he informed this to his mother.

What Are The Counter-Allegations Against Twisha

According to Samarth's bail plea, Twisha was a psychiatric patient and drug addict whose hands and feet would tremble without access to narcotics. To counter the dowry allegations, the retired judge attached online transaction slips ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000, claiming they regularly provided for Twisha's needs.

The retired judge claimed that facts were being "misconstrued" and demanded a thorough probe into several aspects, including chats, financial transactions and a mysterious car key recovered from Twisha's belongings. She said the family had made every effort to save Twisha and maintain cordial relations with her. The retired judge also made controversial remarks about Twisha's lifestyle and behaviour after marriage.

Was Her Pregnancy A Matter Of Dispute?

Her cousin, Meenakshi, spoke to various media houses alleging that the harassment peaked when Twisha lost her work-from-home job and became pregnant, and her husband refused to acknowledge the child. The bail plea also alleged her behaviour towards her in-laws changed after she became pregnant and claimed her husband had taken her to a beauty salon on the day of the incident. According to the plea, Twisha had also suffered a miscarriage.

Responding to allegations surrounding Twisha's pregnancy and claims made in chats allegedly recovered during the investigation, her mother-in-law questioned the authenticity and interpretation of the messages. "After marriage, a baby is the result of a relationship between a husband and wife, isn't it? So how can it be otherwise? If something like this is being written in chat, then if someone wants to terminate a pregnancy, both sides should be consulted," she said.

"She said in the hospital in front of me that she had consumed a lot of marijuana, and that is why she did not want to keep the child. Here, she is telling her parents something different in chat. If allegations are being made against Samarth, then how can her statements be considered true?" the retired judge asked.

What Action Police Have Taken So Far?

The Bhopal Police officially announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to Samrath arrest, after the court denied anticipatory bail. The local investigation has already come under severe scrutiny as ACP Kashyap confirmed that while the preliminary AIIMS Bhopal post-mortem points to a "hanging suicide, the family claims multiple injury marks on her body indicate murder".

In an admission of a lapse in the local probe, Kashyap confirmed that the investigation officer failed to send the rope allegedly used in the hanging to AIIMS during the autopsy and said that action would be taken against the erring officer. He made it clear that the SIT is strictly probing the case based on the dowry and abetment sections in the FIR, regardless of the husband's claims. "In the bail petition, allegations regarding Twisha being a drug addict have been mentioned, but we are strictly investigating the case according to the sections mentioned in the FIR," Kashyap said.
