Delhi Police on Tuesday night at around 10 PM dispersed a protest at India Gate, where the 2017 Unnao rape case victim and activist Yogitha Bhayana, along with the survivor and her mother, had gathered. The demonstration came hours after former Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was granted bail in connection with the 2017 Unnao rape case. Demonstrators chanted slogans seeking justice and responsibility, condemning the bail decision as profoundly unfair in a case that had stunned the country due to its brutality and purported abuse of authority.

The Delhi High Court’s decision to grant bail and stay the sentence of Sengar has sparked widespread outrage. The ruling has deeply unsettled the victim and her family, prompting public protests in the national capital. Women’s rights activists have condemned the move, raising concerns about the legal system’s approach to justice for survivors of sexual violence.

What The Survivor Said On Bail Of  Unnao Rape Case Accused Bail

The survivor claimed that the bail was issued ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She urged that the bail order be revoked, expressing fear and distress following the court’s ruling.

“I heard the judgment, and I felt very bad. I wanted to kill myself then and there, but I stopped after thinking about my family. Injustice has been done to us. Elections are coming, and he has been released on bail so that his wife can contest the polls. If such a rape accused will come out, how will we be safe?” Speaking to ANI, she said.

She further said, “Everyone has become unsafe. His bail should be cancelled, and he should be sent to jail. We will go to the Supreme Court. I have faith in the Supreme Court. We are scared that he has been released.”

What the Victim's Mother Said?

The victim’s mother voiced strong discontent with the court’s ruling, stating that it didn’t matter whether the accused was at home or far away, the severity of the crime demanded strict punishment. While recognising the right of both sides to appeal, she stressed that the courts must consider the victim’s suffering and the ordeal she endured. She firmly asserted that bail should never be granted in such a serious case, noting that the decision has shaken the family’s trust in the justice system. Despite this, she maintained hope for fair and impartial justice.
