The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) makes its first arrest in connection with the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Paper Leak case. The accused, identified as Neeraj Yadav, a resident of Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, stands accused of disseminating the answer key of the question paper to candidates via WhatsApp.

The arrest follows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's decision to cancel the UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination-2023 held on February 17 and 18 amid reports of paper leak and controversies. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed for a fresh examination to be conducted within the next six months with utmost transparency, and also ordered the STF to start investigating the matter and arrest the linked individuals.

“There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who play with the hard work of the youth will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements,” CM Adityanath said in a post on X.

The decision to cancel the examination came after a thorough review of the investigation by the STF and the government's assessment of the situation. The Home Department issued an order to annul the examination.

Additionally, the government mandated the STF to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the paper leak allegations and instructed the Recruitment Board to pursue legal measures, including the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs) against any negligent parties.

Furthermore, concerns raised regarding the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (Preliminary) Examination - 2023 conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission prompted the Chief Minister to order an investigation. The Department of Appointment and Personnel will oversee the inquiry into complaints to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
