In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old woman from Haryana was allegedly gang-raped at a farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district by two UP Police personnel and two CRPF personnel after being lured on the pretext of visiting religious places. The incident reportedly took place at the farmhouse of an independent MLA.
According to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, a female acquaintance contacted the woman, a resident of Fatehabad in Haryana, on September 20 and asked her to meet CRPF Inspector Mohit to visit religious places in Amroha.
How The Incident Unfolded
The woman met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21, after which they travelled to Meerut. There, Mohit was joined by CRPF Head Constable Lalaram Yadav. On September 22, the two allegedly drove her to Hasanpur in Amroha and picked up UP Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way.
According to the police officials, the group checked into two rented rooms at a farmhouse located on the Atrasi, Hasanpur road. The complaint alleges that UP Police Head Constable Pramod arranged food and liquor for them.
The survivor alleged that Mohit, Lalaram Yadav and Sanjay Tomar raped her one after another. She further claimed that Pramod later entered the room and attempted to rape her, but she resisted, pushed him out, locked the door and searched online for the police helpline number.
Hasanpur Kotwali in-charge Amar Pal Singh said the farmhouse where the alleged crime took place reportedly belongs to an Independent MLA from Uttarakhand. Police have questioned the property's manager, and further investigation is underway.
UP Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, reacting to the incident, said, “When a regime is built upon a foundation of crime, its police force inevitably becomes corrupt in every respect. The gang-rape of a young woman in Amroha is a stain on the police that no amount of patronage can wash away. Let there be historic action!”
Accused Arrested
Around 6 am on Wednesday, the woman contacted the police. Teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations reached the farmhouse, rescued her and arrested all four accused.
"Based on the victim's complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abduction or enticement and gangrape. All four have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody," PTI quoted SP Lakhan Singh Yadav.
The local sub-inspector has been suspended, and departmental proceedings have been initiated, while senior CRPF authorities have been informed with a recommendation for strict disciplinary action against the two paramilitary personnel.
Police said the farmhouse where the alleged incident took place reportedly belongs to an Independent MLA from Uttarakhand. The property manager has been questioned, and the investigation is ongoing.
