UP Crime News: A man accused of shooting dead his wife and two priests in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district during a religious ritual was killed in a police encounter, the officials stated. While providing details, they asserted that the accused was killed after a nearly seven-hour standoff, adding that he had locked three children inside a room with him. They further stated that the children were successfully rescued from the room and were admitted to a nearby hospital.
'Threatened Officials, Family Members'
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and tried to convince Arvind, the accused, to surrender. The officials also brought the family members to persuade him, but he kept threatening the officials, children, and other family members. The matter escalated after Arvind allegedly shot his own son, forcing police to take solid action, reported News18.
"Upon the police's arrival at the scene, the accused locked his children inside a room. The police attempted to persuade him to surrender and release the children safely, even enlisting the help of his family members during these negotiations," Azamgarh SSP Dr Anil Kumar was quoted as saying.
Opened Fire At Officials: UP Police
He further stated that three to four members of the SOG team had to break the door and rescue the children after a gunshot was heard. "Finally, when he (accused Arvind) opened fire from within, the SSP and three or four members of the SOG team were compelled to break down the door and enter as a last resort," ADG Varanasi Zone Naveen Arora told the reporters.
The officials further stated that he opened fire at the officials and continued doing so despite multiple warnings, forcing police to open fire in self defense. While Arvind's son had sustained injuries due to the gunshot, the other two children were traumatized and dehydrated. The police rushed all the children to a nearby hospital for treatment.
