Himachal Pradesh News: Saharanpur is likely to get a direct and faster road link to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. A proposal has been submitted to the government for the construction of a green field road, which is expected to improve travel to neighbouring states.

PWD Plans 10-km Link Road From Pather To Saundhebaans

According to the Public Works Department (PWD), a 10-km long and 7-metre wide road is planned to connect Pather village to Saundhebaans on the Haryana border. From there, it will link to the Yamunanagar-Paonta Sahib road, easing the journey from Saharanpur to Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, especially from the Chilkana region. The project is estimated to cost Rs 45.80 crore.

Bridge Over Yamuna Already Under Construction

PWD Executive Engineer RK Singh said the road will pass through Alhanpur and Nanauli Road, ending at Panchkuan. A bridge over the Yamuna River near Alhanpur is already under construction as part of the larger road project. The department has prepared the proposal and sent it for approval. Once the government clears the plan and land acquisition is complete, construction will begin. Officials expect the road to be ready within a year.

Efforts are also underway to improve road connectivity from other parts of Saharanpur to neighbouring states. One such project includes a 12-km road connecting Sadhauli village in Nakur to Jathlana village in Yamunanagar, Haryana. This project is estimated to cost Rs 118 crore. An agreement has been reached with farmers for land purchase at four times the circle rate.

Road To Reduce Distance To Paonta Sahib By 8 km

Currently, the distance from Saharanpur city to Paonta Sahib via the Behat-Mirzapur route is about 75 km. With the new road, travellers can take a route from Saharanpur to Pather (19 km), followed by the proposed 10-km green field road to reach the Paonta Sahib route. This would reduce the distance to approximately 67 km.

Officials believe this new road will help boost regional connectivity, ease transport and benefit residents and commuters in Saharanpur and nearby districts.
