Uttarakhand Weather:  The continuous four hours of heavy rainfall in Dehradun led to waterlogging and brought the temperature down by seven degrees. After two days of overcast skies, it rained heavily in Dehradun, which led to waterlogging and disrupted daily life. The rivers in Dehradun, including Bindal River, are in spate and can pose a threat to nearby settlements.

On Sunday, around 9:30 AM, heavy rainfall started and continued for four hours. Heavy rainfall led to overflowing of rivers and drains, and water entered the houses and flooded the roads.

Dehradun Traffic, Daily Life Affected

Due to heavy rainfall, various parts of the region were submerged, and rainwater debris entered various houses. Traffic and power supply were directly affected due to trees falling on the streets. Various streets and localities were damaged due to rainfall.

At various places in the region, garbage was seen flowing on the road, and drains overflowed. Traffic movement was affected in the region due to soil erosion and waterlogging. However, the sky cleared on Sunday evening.

The main roads of the city, including Darshanlal Chowk, Buddha Chowk, Doon Hospital Chowk, Prince Chowk and Railway Station Gate, were waterlogged.

Rainwater debris entered the houses in Jakhan, Doon Vihaan, Jagran.com reported. Waterlogging complaints from colonies located around Prakriti Vihar, Mohkampur flyover and around the rear side of President’s Aashiyana on Canal Road were reported in the Disaster Control Room and Municipal Corporation Control Room.

Due to a landslide, a truck parked on the roadside on Door University Road overturned. Waterlogging caused traffic disruptions on Mohini Road.

Dehradun Sees Record Rainfall

For the first time in eight years, the city recorded more than 90mm of rainfall in a single day in June. Back in 2017, a heavy rainfall of 177 mm was recorded, after which there was another heavy rainfall on Sunday. 94mm of rainfall was recorded in the Asharodi area, 60mm in Mohkampur area, 70mm in Sahasradhara Road, and 50 mm in Hathibarkala area.

The heavy rainfall brought the temperatures down by seven degrees on Sunday. Clouds were covering the region for over two days, which led to humidity. The maximum temperature on Sunday was 30.2 degrees Celsius, seven degrees less than Saturday’s temperature and four degrees less than normal.

Even before the monsoon had started, the pre-spells had intensified the situation. According to the Meteorological Centre, there are chances of heavy rainfall at some places in Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithorgarh of Kumaon. An orange alert for heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds has been issued.
