Uttarakhand Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh. On Tuesday, several people died while others feared being trapped in Dharali village in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand as a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst caused widespread destruction. In view of this, authorities have directed schools and Anganwadi centres to remain closed on Wednesday.

Heavy rain has wreaked havoc in multiple districts of Uttarakhand. The IMD on Wednesday issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Uttarakhand, including Chamoli, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi. Heavy spells of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Uttarakhand till August 9. There is no sign of relief for the residents. The weather department has advised residents to follow official weather updates and limit outdoor activities to avoid inconvenience.
Uttarakhand Rain Alert: Flash Floods, Roads Blocked, Schools Closed
Amid continuous downpour, the hilly regions of Uttarakhand are experiencing landslides, while the other regions are witnessing a flood-like situation. Flash floods triggered by cloudbursts caused widespread destruction in Uttarakhand, killing several people and damaging buildings and shops. Uttarkashi is expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning.
Following massive destruction, several schools remain closed on Wednesday in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Almora, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudraprayag. Due to heavy rainfall, several key roads of the state got damaged and remain blocked for traffic movement. The Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) was blocked on Tuesday due to debris. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami stated that rescue teams had arrived on the spot and were carrying out rescue and relief works. Meanwhile, the administration has urged residents to remain indoors and limit outdoor activities during heavy spells of rainfall.
