Uttarakhand Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for multiple districts in Uttarakhand as monsoon conditions are expected to begin today, June 11. After days of scorching heat, the state may finally receive some relief as light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is likely in parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Dehradun. Isolated areas may experience winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h.
Extreme Heat Persists in Plains
While rain is on the horizon for many hill regions, several plains districts, including Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar, continue to reel under an intense heatwave. On Tuesday, Dehradun recorded a high of 39.1 degrees C, and Pantnagar touched 38.6 degrees C. Hot winds and high humidity have worsened conditions, prompting residents to stay indoors during the day.
Meteorologists suggest that dry weather will persist in low-lying areas until June 11, accompanied by strong surface winds (30–40 km/h). The heat is likely to continue in the plains, where temperatures remain well above the seasonal average.
Fresh Snowfall Brings Respite in Hills
The high-altitude regions of Kedarnath Dham and Hemkund Sahib have witnessed fresh snowfall, leading to a drop in temperatures. Pilgrims and tourists visiting these areas are enjoying much cooler weather, a stark contrast to the sweltering plains. Local residents have also reported comfortable conditions amidst the snow-covered surroundings.
Monsoon Set to Arrive Early In Uttarakhand
According to IMD officials, the monsoon is likely to arrive in Uttarakhand nearly six days ahead of schedule, with widespread rainfall expected across the state starting June 12. While pre-monsoon showers brought some relief in May and early June, the recent surge in heat has made conditions difficult, especially in the plains. The incoming monsoon is expected to ease the ongoing heatwave and bring much-needed relief.
