Vistara Airline Crisis Latest Update: Vistara Airlines, which is in the middle of a row over delays and cancellations of its flights, on Sunday announced it was going to scale back its operations by around 25-30 flights per day to ease pressure on pilots and crew members. Over the last few days, the airline faced massive public ire for disruptions due to non-availability of pilots. The announcement came after the Vistara CEO announced over 98 per cent of its pilots signed new contracts with revised salaries, which caused unprecedented disruptions.

The airline said its domestic operations faced maximum disruptions. The airline spokesperson said they will now operate with 10 per cent of their capacity, which will provide a buffer in the rosters. "We are carefully scaling back our operations by around 25-30 flights per day, i.e. roughly 10 per cent of the capacity we were operating. This will take us back to the same level of flight operations as at the end of February 2024, and provide the much-needed resilience and buffer in the rosters," NDTV quoted him as saying.

He also said the situation seemed better with the recent moves and they were hopeful that this will continue in April and beyond. "In line with what we had said earlier, with this all the changes for the month of April 2024 have been done and the situation has already gotten better with our on-time performance improving for the last few days. Looking ahead, we are hopeful of stable operations for the rest of the month and beyond," he added.

Vistara Merger With Air India And Concerns Of Pilots:

As Vistara is eyeing a merger with Air India, pilots are worried that their fixed pay component was getting reduced in new contracts. Owing to this, the service was massively disrupted over the weekend of March 31 to April 1 with flights getting cancelled. The situation was so pathetic that the DGCA had to step, which asked the airline to submit a daily report on flight cancellations and delays. The civil aviation ministry is also monitoring the situation.

The merger is expected to be completed by mid-2025. Currently, Vistara is jointly owned by Tatas and Singapore Airlines.
