Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has launched ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ from Bihar’s Sasaram on Sunday, highlighting the alleged assault on the people's right to vote through the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in the state. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav was also present during the inauguration of the Yatra in Sasaram. Yadav is expected to play a big role in the Vote Adhikar Yatra. The Yatra will pass through areas which the Mahagathbandhan considers fertile ground for political activities.
Impact Of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi launched a ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ with the Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders, which strengthened the opposition unity. The Yatra took off in two phases in Bihar. The first phase ran from January 29 to January 31, 2024, in which Gandhi passed through four Lok Sabha constituencies of Seemanchal (Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Katihar) and left for Bengal. In the second phase of two days (15 to 16 February 2025), he passed through four Lok Sabha constituencies (Aurangabad, Karakat, Sasaram, Buxar).
Congress won all three seats in Kishanganj, Katihar, and Sasaram. Karakat went to CPI(ML), while Aurangabad and Buxar went to RJD. The Mahagathbandhan was victorious in seven of these constituencies due to the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Impact Of Tejashwi-Led Yatra In Bihar
Tejashwi Yadav has also launched five Yatras in the past, namely, ‘Unemployment Hatao Yatra’, ‘Constitution Bachao Yatra’, ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra’, ‘Aabhar Yatra’, and ‘Jan Samvad Yatra.’ Though the yatras faced criticism from the opposition parties, they significantly improved Yadav’s image and attracted a lot of youth in the 2020 elections.
As a result, the Mahagathbandhan got 47 per cent support among voters in the age group of 18-39 years, while the NDA got 34-36 per cent. In addition, 78 lakh first-time voters (aged 18-25 years) gave more importance to employment than to jungle raj, Jagran.com reported.
Will Tejashwi Yadav-Led Mahagathbandhan Mount Pressure On Govt Ahead Of Bihar Polls?
Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav have again joined hands, and they have successfully launched ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ to raise awareness among people about their right to vote in Bihar. In the 16-Day yatra, Gandhi will cover more than 20 districts with three break days on August 20, 20 and 31. He will pass through areas where the Mahagathbandhan proved to be ictoius in the past yatras. The yatra will conclude final rally in Patna on September 1.
“Vote Adhikar Yatra’ will be a historic march, and it will prove to be a milestone in the history of our democracy. We’ll not accept that the Election Commission becomes a component of this so-called ‘double-engine’,” Khera said.

Meanwhile, the RJD has also launched a two-and-a-half-minute song, with lyrics in a mix of Hindi and Bhojpuri, in which Yadav is seen sharing space with Gandhi and being hailed as a leader who was vigilant and willing to rouse the people, and ensure “nobody's right to vote is snatched and the spirit of freedom is never lost.”
