North India Heatwave Alert:  This week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of extremely high temperatures in a number of northern states. It has sent out a "yellow" warning. This indicates that while heat is normally tolerable, it can be harmful to infants, the elderly, and persons with long-term illnesses.

According to the IMD forecast, temperatures in areas like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana are anticipated to rise over 40 degrees Celsius. This season's first significant heatwave is coming on strong. The worst of it is in West Rajasthan, but extremely high temperatures are also being recorded in sections of East Rajasthan, Saurashtra, and Gujarat's Kutch.

Certainly, on Monday, April 7, Delhi had its first heatwave of the year, with temperatures in several places soaring to 40.2 degrees Celsius. Given that the heat is predicted to worsen over the next several days, the IMD has extended the "yellow" alert in the capital for an additional two days.
