Weather News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for Monday, September 9, affecting various states, with red alerts issued for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. An orange alert is in place for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and West Bengal. Additionally, several other states are under yellow alerts as monsoon rains continue to impact large parts of India.
In Andhra Pradesh, continuous rainfall has battered Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas since Saturday night, causing significant waterlogging and disrupting daily life on Sunday, September 8. According to The Hindu report, As a precaution, the Collectors of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Anakapalli districts have declared a school holiday for Monday.
IMD Issues Warnings Amid Low-Pressure Formation
The IMD issued a nowcast warning following the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. The weather agency has predicted light to moderate rainfall across most of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, with heavy rains expected today and tomorrow.
According to the AP State Development Planning Society, many localities, including Pendurthi, Anandapuram, Pedagantyada, and Bheemunipatnam, received around 50 mm of rainfall between 8:30 AM and 6 PM on Sunday.
Andhra Rain Causes Landslides and Disruptions
The relentless downpour in Visakhapatnam has led to landslides in some regions, raising safety concerns for residents, particularly those living on hillsides. Authorities are urging caution among citizens. In Alluri Sitharama Raju district, the road to Lambasingi village has been closed due to the risk of landslides, and officials are closely monitoring the situation.
Heavy Rain In Odisha, Chhattisgarh Until Sept 11
The IMD further indicated that the system is expected to move towards Odisha, making landfall near Puri by noon on September 9. Heavy rains are anticipated in Odisha and surrounding areas, including Chhattisgarh, lasting until September 11.
Rain Likely In Delhi Until Sept 14
In Delhi, the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day. Wet weather is expected to continue until September 14, with temperatures ranging between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius on Monday.
