Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that several northern states are likely to witness rainfall in the upcoming days. Along with rain, these states are also set to witness thunderstorms and strong surface winds. The rainfall is expected to drop the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat. However, the IMD clarified that the heat is likely to persist despite a minor relief, advising the residents to follow the guidelines.
While providing details, the weather department stated that a spell of rain, dust storms, and strong winds is expected to persist over the coming days due to the activation of a 'western disturbance.' It asserted that the change in temperature will provide temporary relief to the residents of the northern states. The residents of several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, and Jharkhand, are set to witness rainfall for the next few days.
In its advisory, the IMD stated that light rain and showers accompanied by thunder and lightning are expected at least till May 2. The residents of Delhi and other nearby cities are also likely to witness strong surface winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph. However, the weather department clarified that the temperatures will continue to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
The visibility on the roads is expected to be reduced due to the dust storms, leading to inconveniences for the daily commuters. The farmers of the northern states have been advised to take necessary steps to protect their crops. The weather department also advised them to not hide beneath any big tree or electricity pole during the rainfall.

Along with the northern states, several southern states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala, are also set to witness rainfall in the upcoming days.
