North India is facing severe cold with dense fog, which disrupted flights and train operations across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light to moderate rain at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Karnataka and Kerala on Tuesday.

The cold wave continued in Punjab, Haryana, Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Ludhiana and Amritsar were the coldest in Punjab. Ambala recorded the lowest temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius in Haryana. 

A thin layer of ice formed on the surface of Dal Lake in Srinagar was seen. The temperature in Srinagar city dropped to minus 4.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday night while the minimum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded at minus 6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Una, Sundernagar and Solan in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing colder weather than Shimla. There is a possibility of light snowfall in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, the met agency stated.

Flights, Train Operations Disrupt Due To Dense Fog

On Monday, 47 flights were delayed and some were cancelled due to low visibility at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. The flights affected included those to Leh, Bilaspur, Patna, Bagdogra, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kullu and Chandigarh. The planes flying from Srinagar also reached Jammu with a delay of two to three hours.

Train operations were also affected on Monday as about 90 trains reached Delhi late. Some of the trains that faced long delays were Ajmer-Jammu Tawi Express, Pooja Express, Tata Muri, Malwa Express, Jhelum Express, Mumbai Super Fast and Shalimar Express.
