Karnataka Weather Update: Heavy to extremely heavy rains expected till Wednesday in Bengaluru and adjoining districts in the south interior of Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the same.

According to The Indian Express, this weather pattern, which is linked to a cyclonic circulation off the coast of Gujarat, is predicted to provide respite, especially to the coastal districts and Malnad region, which have been receiving below-average rainfall since the start of the monsoon.

Different patterns of rainfall have been observed in Karnataka during the first three weeks of the monsoon. According to data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), regions around Bengaluru and North Karnataka have received "excess" and "large excess" amounts of rainfall, although coastal and Malnad districts are currently experiencing "deficits" in June.

Bengaluru Urban in south-central Karnataka recorded 135.3 mm of rain between June 1 and June 24, which is 107 percent more than the city's typical monthly rainfall.

Conversely, coastal and Malnad districts such as Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Haveri, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu are facing shortfalls. Despite the shortfalls, the Dakshina Kannada district received the maximum rainfall on Monday, June 24, with 131 mm in Manchi, Bantwal Taluk, 122 mm in Patrame, Belthangadi Taluk, and 119.5 mm in Belanduru, Puttur Taluk.
