JE News Desk: Monsoon rain has wreaked havoc in several states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi. Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Maharashtra on Saturday including Mumbai and its suburbs, causing waterlogging and traffic snarls.
The India Meteorological Department has also issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Sindhudurg districts for tomorrow. The weather department has also advised the residents of these areas to remain alert and take necessary actions to ensure their safety.
Following incessant rainfall, significant waterlogging was witnessed in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi. While nearly 45 people remain stranded in floods in the Yavatmal district on Saturday despite rescue operations. Two Indian Airforce helicopters have also been deployed to carry out the rescue operations and airlift people struck in the Mahagaon taluka.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter and wrote, “Two Indian Airforce helicopters will soon reach Nagpur and from there will leave for Mahagaon to rescue the stranded villagers. Mahagaon taluka recorded 231 mm rainfall.”

Meanwhile, a flood-like situation erupted in several parts of Gujarat due to heavy monsoon rains. In the Junagadh district, heavy rains wreaked havoc with cars being washed away by rivers. The IMD has also issued a red, orange, and yellow alert for several districts of the state till July 24. Rainwater also inundated several residential areas of the Navsari and Junagadh districts.

The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for Uttarkashi, Dehradun, and Bageshwar, predicting heavy rainfall over the next two days. The MeT department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall in the remaining districts. Residents have also been advised to remain alert as heavy rain may cause an increase in water levels and some areas may face a risk of landslides.
The Meteorological department has also issued a three-day yellow alert for heavy rain in most parts of the state. Earlier in the day, the weather department predicted that Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu, Shimla, and Bilaspur districts may have isolated spells of 'very heavy' rain on Saturday. Rivers in the state also started to flow above the danger mark and several areas reported landslides and flash floods.
Kartarpur Pilgrimage On Hold Till July 25 As Ravi Water Levels Continue To Rise
The Kartarpur Pilgrimage has been suspended for two more days by the Gurdaspur authorities in Punjab due to rising water levels in the Ravi River. The religious corridor, which connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur and Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, is scheduled to reopen on July 25.
The Kartarpur Corridor was closed on July 20 for three days due to rising water levels in the Ravi River after 2.60 lakh cusecs of water were released in Jammu's Ujh river on July 19.
