Sachin Laur, an Indian Army Para Commando of Naglia Gaurola village in Tappal, Aligarh was set to return home for his wedding on December 8. With wedding cards distributed in the village and preparations in full swing, who would know an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri would change his fate.
On Friday evening, Sachin met his untimely demise in the two-day-long encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. The operation resulted in the death of Captain M V Pranjal of Karnataka's Mangalore area, Captain Shubham Gupta of Uttar Pradesh's Agra, Havaldar Abdul Majid of Ajote in Jammu and Kahsmir's Poonch, Lance Naik Sanjay Bisht of Uttarakhand's Halli Padli area and Paratrooper Sachin Laur of Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh.
Fulfilling his childhood dream, Sachin joined the army on March 20, 2019, and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Further, he became the commando in the Special Forces in 2021 and was associated with the PARA Regiment of the Army.
The 23-year-old soldier had communicated with his family mere hours before the encounter started. He texted his elder brother Vivek on WhatsApp on Thursday morning, that the operation is going on and everything was fine. But hours later, his village received the sad news leaving everyone in pain.
Sachin was slated to come home after taking leave on December 1 for his wedding. However, who would know that he would return draped in a tricolor.
Hailing from a family with a military background, Sachin's elder brother Vivek serves in the Navy and is currently posted in Kochi. His uncle also sacrificed his life while serving in the Army.
Sachin's father, Ramesh Chand, a farmer, and his mother, Bhagwati Devi, find it difficult to believe that their son is no more and contain their grief. The news has echoed through the community, drawing condolences and support from neighbors and officials alike.
