West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced that the state government has decided to ban the movie 'The Kerala Story'. She further said, the decision has been taken to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and to maintain peace in the state.
The announcement came just minutes after Mamata Banerjee alleged that "the BJP was funding a film on Bengal on the lines of Kashmir Files"

Also, Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur termed the ban as an' injustice with West Bengal' and said, "Their (opposition) face is getting exposed, they're doing appeasement and vote bank politics. By banning the film (The Kerala Story), West Bengal is committing injustice. Recently only, a girl was raped & murdered in Bengal...what are you ( Mamata Banerjee) getting by standing up for such terrorists..."
Ever since its release, the movie has been surrounded by controversy facing stiff protests in several states. Helmed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story claims to portray the story of some women from the state who were converted to Islam and recruited by the terror outfit ISIS. 'The Kerala Story' stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles.
It has triggered online debate and criticism with strong objections raised by many political leaders who have termed it to be a propaganda film.
Also, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called the film out for being nothing but a clutch of blatant lies, and said that at first glance, the film appears to peddle lies aimed at creating communal polarisation and spreading hate propaganda against the state.
The Prime Minister said that the film 'The Kerala Story' shows the ugly truth of terrorism and exposes terrorists' design. He added that the film is based on a terror conspiracy.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the newly released movie has been made tax-free in the state stating that the 'The Kerala Story' "exposes the conspiracy of love Jihad, religious conversion and terrorism."
