Bengal Weather: The weather department stated that several regions of West Bengal received light to heavy rainfall on Friday. It stated that the fresh spell of rains has provided relief to the residents of these from the scorching heat. The weather department stated that several districts, including Kolkata, are likely to experience similar weather conditions in the upcoming few days.

The IMD stated that the City of Joy and nearby districts are expected to witness rainfall with gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. It stated that while the maximum temperature of the city is likely to remain around 34 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is expected to be recorded at 25 degrees Celsius.

It stated that while Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and a few regions of Jhargram are expected to receive heavy rainfall, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are likely to witness light to moderate rain.

The weather department also stated that several districts of North Bengal, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda, are also expected to receive light to heavy rainfall.

“Thunderstorms and rain already commenced in some areas of North Bengal overnight and are expected to continue for the next few hours. Notably, Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts are also likely to experience significant rainfall during the weekend, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph,” an official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Apart from this, the state government on Friday announced an early summer vacation for schools amid scorching heat and humid weather conditions. The government stated that except for the schools located in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, the summer vacation will be held early this year.

The summer vacation in West Bengal schools usually begins in the second week of May. Earlier on Wednesday, the IMD stated that the heat in Kolkata and other cities is expected to intensify from mid-April.
