West Bengal Weather Update: As West Bengal votes in the second and final phase of its Assembly elections on Wednesday, April 29, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for several parts of the state. The weather office has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, particularly in the southern districts where voting is currently underway.
While the weather may bring relief from the scorching heat, the IMD has advised voters to take precautions, such as carrying umbrellas and staying alert to weather changes, to avoid inconvenience.

West Bengal Weather: What's Expected?
A combination of moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal and conducive wind flow is expected to bring rainstorms across the state for seven consecutive days. On voting day, key areas, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East Bardhaman, Bankura, and West Medinipur, are at risk of inclement weather.

- According to the latest weather forecast, these unstable weather patterns are likely to continue across the region until at least May 3.
Similar Conditions Likely In North Bengal Hill Districts
The current weather is not limited to the plain regions. It is expected to extend to the Sub-Himalayan and Terai regions, with districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar likely to receive heavy rainfall till May 3.
In response, local administrations are closely monitoring the situation for potential landslides and disruptions to travel in the hill areas during the time of voting.
Advisory For Fishermen
The IMD has issued an advisory for fishermen, urging them to avoid venturing into the coastal region of West Bengal and North Odisha till May 2 because of the turbulent weather conditions in the sea area.
