Jagdeep Dhankhar Row: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister questioned the absence of a formal farewell for Dhankhar, who took everyone by surprise after resigning on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament. Yadav urged the BJP leaders to check on his well-being.

"The people from BJP should go check on him. We're hearing there's no farewell happening either; if there was a farewell, we would all go, thank him, inquire about his health, and honour him," he said while speaking to reporters.

PM Modi's Tweet Revealed Political Nature Of Resignation: Gaurav Gogoi

Meanwhile, Congress MP and Deputy Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Wednesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on the resignation of Dhankhar. The Congress leader alleged that PM Modi's comments highlighted the political nature of the resignation.

"The dignity of a Constitutional post should be maintained both in it's role of a Presiding Officer and in it's resignation. PM Modi's tweet has revealed the political nature of the resignation," Gogoi wrote on X.

"Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health," PM Modi said in a post on X.

Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening "to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice".

He sent his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu. "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," Dhankhar said in his letter.

"I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency - the Hon'ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing, wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure," he added.
